East Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith is hoping to beef up his strikeforce in time for another tilt at promotion to County League Division One.
Grinstead finished just three points adrift of Hailsham, who filled the third promotion place in Division Two, after a hat-trick from midfielder Stuart Hardy helped them to a 4-1 win over Storrington in their final game on Monday.
That took Hardy's tally for the season to 17 and made him joint top-scorer with James Hylton. But Grinstead managed a modest 57 league goals and Smith believes more forward power is needed at East Court.
He said: "We've got three or four good strikers at the club, but we need someone who is going to score us 25 or 30 goals in a season. If we do we could do even better next season because our defensive record was the third best in the division."
An hour after the final whistle blew on Monday, Grinstead were testing their new floodlights which were finally erected after a three month delay caused by bad weather.
And Storrington were the last visiting team to make the familiar trek up the East Court slope to the dressing rooms. New changing accomodation, next to the pitch, is nearly completed and will be ready in time for next season.
Smith added: "The club have made a lot of progress this season on and off the field and I'm determined we're going to go from strength to strength."
l A SOLITARY strike from Jason Wimbleton was enough to give Arundel the Brighton Charity Cup, beating Whitehawk 1-0.
