Seeing the story "Kidnap suspect was helping girl" (Argus, May 17) reminded me of a similar experience.
Several years ago, on a cold, dark November early evening, I found two young boys who were clearly lost in Hangleton Lane.
They explained to me they had tried to visit an aunt in Hangleton, were from near the Foredown Tower and could now find neither place.
I went out of my way to take them back home. I am a fairly large, casually-dressed man and noticed drivers were looking at me with the two young boys.
Finally, a car stopped and the driver explained he was an off-duty policeman. I explained what the situation was and he said he would drive them home.
Looking into the car, I could see a female passenger and so felt reasonably happy for him to do this.
The incident, however, left a memory that it could have been a case of "out of the frying pan, into the fire".
Unfortunately, incidents such as these can have the effect that people who genuinely care may be put off becoming involved.
