The tragic case of Sarah Lawson, killed by her father to spare her any more suffering through mental illness, will be examined in an independent review.

Understandably, her mother, Karen, is upset and claims that Worthing Priority Care NHS Trust did not do enough to help her.

What is clear from medical notes is that Sarah received a huge amount of attention in the three years before she died.

It will be for the inquiry to decide whether the Trust and other authorities acted correctly in this case but one thing is clear.

Dealing with people who suffer from severe mental problems is extremely difficult and their actions are often totally unpredictable.

No matter how much attention is given, there are always going to be some patients who fail to recover. The inquiry's job will be to recommend how to reduce that number to a bare minimum.
