A collection of people called Cliff helped reopen a superstore which was closed after a rock fall.

Part of the cliff at Black Rock collapsed on April 9 and debris plunged into a yard at the back of Asda at Brighton Marina.

A Cliff Richard look-alike helped manager Jonathan Smith to officially reopen the store this morning. Impersonator Steve Christie also serenaded shoppers.

Jonathan Smith said: "What better way to reopen a store that was closed by a cliff fall than with a load of people called Cliff. We could not get the real Cliff but we have got the next best thing.

"It is great news that we have been given the all-clear to reopen the store. While we have been closed we have been busy. We have added a new cosmetics range, an Asda pharmacy and a brand new produce counter as well as giving the store a general spring clean."

He said the risk of further falls from the cliff was "extremely small".

Safety measures have been introduced including closing off the service area at the back of the store and preparing safety briefings for staff.
