Albion could be about to give club historian Tim Carder more work after a hat-trick of record-breaking bids at Carlisle last Saturday.

The Seagulls' 22nd clean sheet of the season at Brunton Park eclipsed the previous best set in 1923-24.

Bobby Zamora missed out on the chance to emulate a handful of players who have scored in eight successive League games for the Seagulls. Zamora had reached six before his shut-out in Cumbria.

Albion were also denied a record-breaking eight doubles in a season by the goalless draw at Carlisle and Tuesday's postponement at Halifax.

But they will get another chance in next week's rearranged game at the Shay Stadium and if not in the final fixture at Shrewsbury on Saturday week.

Another record is up for grabs for Michel Kuipers and the defence. The lowest number of goals conceded by Albion in a season is 34 in 1984-85 and they have currently let- in 31.

The Seagulls have also chalked up 26 wins and can therefore beat the figure of 29, achieved in 1955-56, by taking maximum points from the four matches remaining. The penultimate fixture, at home to Chesterfield next Tuesday, could yet have a lot riding on it for the Spireites.

Chesterfield's position is shrouded by uncertainty after the Football League Board asked an independent tribunal to review upwards the nine-point punishment it recommended for financial irregularities.

On Saturday Chesterfield go to Hull, who are still capable of overtaking them.

Albion boss Micky Adams believes the Chesterfield players have been "let down by the administrators and directors" in the financial scandal which has marred their season.

Adams said: "Their lads have done magnificently. It's nothing to do with the players."
