Sussex snooker ace Mark Davis has a lot to do tonight after world No. 3 Stephen Hendry built a 6-3 lead at the Crucible in Sheffield.

Davis, from St Leonards-on-Sea, found himself trailing 5-0 to the seven-times world champion at one stage in the first session of their Embassy World Championship showdown.

The 27-year-old qualifier was pinned to his seat for much of the opening frames, although he rallied as he took the sixth frame with a break of 87.

Davis, the world No. 77, managed to claw back a couple more frames before the finish as Hendry gave a somewhat below par display.

The two lock horns again at 6.45pm tonight.

Meanwhile, John Higgins took the first step towards fulfilling the prophecy of a nightclub clairvoyant who told him he would meet Ronnie O'Sullivan in this year's final.

The 1998 Crucible hero reached the second round with a convincing 10-4 victory over fellow Scot Graeme Dott, producing some impressive break-building as he booked a clash with either Marco Fu or Chris Small.

Second seed Higgins then revealed he had been approached by someone who claimed to have had a premonition that the 'Wizard of Wishaw' will take on O'Sullivan in the final on May 6-7.

"I was having a night out with my fiancee and another couple in a Glasgow nightclub a few months ago when this guy approached us who said he could see into the future," said Higgins.

"Unfortunately he didn't say what the score would be. And he didn't seem to be drunk - he looked stone cold sober!

"Perhaps he had worked out that we would be in opposite halves of the draw and was just guessing, but he seemed genuine enough. We'll have to see what happens. I'd love it to come true."

On his form against Dott it does not need Mystic Meg to work out that Higgins is a leading contender for the title
