Micky Adams' Albion could be crowned champions at Halifax tomorrow night, with the assistance of his old chum Alan Cork.

The Seagulls' first title for 36 years will be confirmed if they win and Cork's Cardiff draw or lose at Mansfield.

They need four points from four games to be mathematically certain of the championship, so they may have to wait until Saturday's home clash against Macclesfield or beyond.

It follows a club record-breaking goalless draw for Albion at Carlisle on Saturday and Cardiff's 3-3 stalemate at York.

That clinched promotion for the Welshmen, managed by Adams' former No. 2.

Albion have now kept 22 clean sheets in the League this season, eclipsing the previous-best achieved in 1923-24.

Adams said: "We have created a club record and I am proud of the boys. They gave me everything.

"It was nice when we heard the other results. Teams are making it easy for us.

"The title means everything. A medal is something to treasure for ever. Nobody can ever take it away from you and that's what we are going for."

Chesterfield are effectively out of the title running after losing 2-1 at home to Lincoln.

Their nine point deduction for financial irregularities leaves them eight behind Albion, while Cardiff remain six adrift, and the Seagulls have a game in hand on both.

Meanwhile, Adams has slammed Luke Beckett's tribunal transfer from Chester to Chesterfield, which contributed to the Spireites' points punishment.

"I don't think it's right if you buy a player and don't pay for him," Adams said. "If a tribunal sets a fee you should have to abide by the decision and submit some money to the club losing the player.

"How would we feel if Bobby Zamora went to Manchester United, a tribunal set a £1 million fee and we didn't get anything?"
