Judging from Elizabeth Taylor's letters regarding the terrible foot and mouth disease and her sympathy for the poor animals, she is, no doubt, of a religious nature with good intentions.

But she must remember there is also a human aspect about it.

Many farmers who have seen their lifetime's work go up in smoke are now on the verge of suicide.

We, and the Government, must show compassion towards them.

I wish to remind you that during the Second World War the relations of these farmers, along with the Women's Land Army, helped save this nation from starvation.
