Two 18-year-olds have been jailed for seven years after admitting a "savage" attack on two men.

Bradley Hughes and Danny Osbourne admitted an alcohol and drug-fuelled, two-minute burst of extreme violence in St James's Street, Brighton, last September last year.

Lewes Crown Court heard the pair had been to the Volks nightclub on Madeira Drive before launching the unprovoked attack on Christopher Docherty and Graham Barron.

Michael Warren, prosecuting, told the court how Hughes, of Ditchling Road, and Osbourne, of no fixed abode, punched and kicked their victims to the ground, then stamped and kicked them unconscious.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage and shown to the court.

Mr Docherty suffered brain injuries and may never be able to work again. The judge said the assault was an example of "insane and mindless savagery".

The hearing was told both defendants had previous convictions for violence and had only been 17 when they committed the offences.

Defending Hughes, Walter Aylen said: "The assault was quite appalling and the defendant had drunk ten or so cans of strong lager and taken three Ecstasy tablets. He was a time bomb waiting to off."

Defending Osbourne, Camden Pratt said: "He has a young child with his girlfriend and prior this incident he had taken drugs."

Hughes and Osbourne both admitted two joint charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Sentencing, Mr Justice Wright said: "This court has been able to see from the video film just what happened between both of you and your victims.

"The court has seen kicking and stamping with all possible force upon the unconscious figures."

He added: "I have a duty to send a message to people that insane and mindless savagery is not to be tolerated on the streets."
