A baby was showered in glass when a double-decker ploughed into a bus shelter.
The one-year-old baby was with its mother inside the shelter near the Co-op in London Road, Brighton, when the crash happened.
The baby was taken to hospital as a precaution but the child was not thought to be seriously hurt.
The driver of the number five bus, travelling into town at the time, suffered shock.
Witness Mark Salter, 28, a computer salesman, was in the Tiny computer shop opposite the shelter.
He said: "We heard a huge bang. I rushed to see what was happening.
"There was a baby. Its mother was screaming. The bus driver just sat there like he was in shock."
Police attended and security staff from the Co-op helped in the clean-up operation.
Roger French, of Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, said he had launched an inquiry.
