Gerry Armstrong is tipping Spain to reign in the Champions League.

The former Albion forward believes there will be an all-Spanish final for the second year running, spelling anguish for the three English giants left in the competition.

Armstrong played in Spain for Real Mallorca. He has spent the last five years providing expert analysis on Spanish League matches every Saturday and Sunday for Sky TV.

"I have watched it improve dramatically," Armstrong said. "Spanish football has been superb in the last two or three seasons. It is now by far the best and most entertaining League in Europe.

"They have three teams in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They also had four in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup and two are through to the semis, which shows the strength in depth."

There are two English-Spanish showdowns in the last eight of the Champions League, with Leeds tackling Deportivo La Coruna and Arsenal up against last year's runners-up Valencia.

"The Leeds tie is the interesting one," said Armstrong. "Deportivo are the Spanish champions, but I think Leeds have got a chance.

"Alan Smith and Mark Viduka can give their defence a lot of problems, but Deportivo will score goals. They play fantastic, attractive football."

Armstrong regards Arsenal's tie against Valencia as a more straightforward call.

"Arsenal have not played particularly well in the competition and they were very fortunate to qualify.

"If they play as poorly as they did against Spartak Moscow and Lyon I can see them being knocked out."
