Typically, Brighton and Hove City Council throws up its hands and states "there is little we can do about 'boy-racers' using Madeira Drive as a race track".

Rubbish. There are numerous things that could be done if the council had the mind to.

I suggest a simple and cheap answer: Mobile chicanes and pinch points, as used by the military at checkpoints and road checks.

These comprise large concrete blocks with a hook on top, which can be picked up and moved by a JCB or light crane in minutes and placed strategically along the length of the road and easily removed if need be.

They could be tastefully moulded in multi-coloured concrete and even have a recess on top for plants and flowers.

They could be sponsored by cafes, restaurants and clubs on the seafront if the council cannot afford it.

The safety of the general public must come before the selfish and highly dangerous goings-on of a tiny minority who will just go elsewhere.
