Jimmy Hill was in the biggest league crowd at the Dripping Pan this season as third-placed Lewes were held to a 1-1 home draw by Corinthian Casuals in Division Three.

The outspoken TV pundit, from Hurstpierpoint, is Casuals' president and might have had a few things to say about how good fortune deserted the hosts as the Rooks conceded a farcical 62nd-minute equaliser.

It denied them all three points that would have seen them leapfrog Flackwell Heath into second spot with three games in hand.

A poor back pass from Mark McCallum left veteran goalkeeper Keith Cheal, standing in for injured Florian Ludewig, with no time to clear and his rushed effort struck Jamie White on the back and rebounded into the net.

Lewes were on top throughout the first half and they deservedly took the lead after 34 minutes when a low cross from Sam Francis was tucked away by Matt Beeston at the near post.

But the second half provided a poor spectacle and Lewes were made to pay for not making their first-half dominance pay off.

Horsham boss John Maggs slammed his side after they were defeated 6-1 at home to FA Vase finalists Berkhamsted Town in Division Two at Queen Street after Hornets threw away a deserved first-half lead.

He said: "It was a black Saturday for Horsham Football Club. The players let themselves down and the club down. I didn't expect this to happen and I am very surprised.

"I cannot understand how we can play ourselves into a position to make the top three and then throw it away in 45 minutes.

"As soon as they equalised, our body language told me we were going to lose. If the match had gone on 15 minutes longer, it would have been ten."

A blistering first half had given little indication of the abject surrender to come. The visitors started brightly, but Horsham fought their way back and took the lead in the 37th minute after a period of sustained pressure. Gavin Geddes gained possession on the left edge of the penalty area and cut inside his defender before placing the ball just inside the far post. Berkhamsted equalised in the 49th minute.

Ben Smith appeared offside when he was played through, with the linesman behind play, and he set up Andy Mullins to beat Ian Chatfield from just inside the penalty area.

The visitors took the lead ten minutes after the break when the unmarked Darren Coleman headed in from a corner and he repeated the feat six minutes later after Chatfield had appeared to be impeded in the six-yard box.

Maggs threw on all three substitutes, but his side showed no fight and allowed the visitors to stroll past them at will. Mullins scored his second after 71 minutes when a poor defensive clearance fell to his feet and he again finished well from the right side of the area.

Andy Adebowale clipped the ball home following a goalmouth scramble in the 84th minute and the same player added the sixth three minutes later.

Late goals from Stuart Tuck and Marc Rice helped Worthing to only their second win in 20 Division One and cup games to defeat relegation-threatened Yeading 3-1 at Woodside Road.

The victory, Rebels first at home for four-and-a half-months, was their first over Yeading in five years.

It was badly needed with struggling Worthing having taken just nine points from their previous 15 league games and one more win should be enough to make sure they stay up.

Rebels, who had Lee Bray back in goal and gave a debut to former Albion defender Andrew Beech, hit the post through Paul Kennett before Ben Carrington drove them ahead on 36 minutes following a pass from Mark Burt.

Stephen Griffith equalised with a header just before the break and Matt Edwards should have put Yeading ahead after Rice and Lee Weston were off target for Rebels just after the interval.

But Worthing regained the lead when Tuck stroked home a 79th-minute penalty after a foul on Carrington and Rice sealed victory three minutes later.

The striker found the inside of the near post with a shot from the edge of the area following a good move involving Carrington and Kennett.

Yeading let themselves down with poor finishing, especially in the second half and Marvin Walker might have scored a minute from time when set up by David Ocquaye.

Bognor assistant manager Neil Hider was critical of his side after their 3-2 Division One home defeat against Ford United.

Rocks went three-down before coming close to rescuing a point.

But Hider said: "We put in a good performance last week against a top side but our attitude against Ford was poor. The only surprise was that we were only three down before we realised what was happening.

"The players appeared to have got above their stations and failed to put in the work and effort of recent weeks and when you do that it results in defeat. Despite the encouragement and guidance provided by the management at the club, once they step over that white line there is little else you can do to help, and hope they have learned from it."

With the visitors still in with a fighting chance of promotion stakes, it was they who looked the more likeliest in the opening stages, as they appeared to be on the ball and were first in all the challenges, and picking up the pieces.

Bognor lacked cohesion and looked unable to produce any fighting spirit against visitors who are chasing promotion.

But Ford, having created a few good openings, failed to trouble goalkeeper Craig Stoner until the 26th minute when Billy Read went close for the visitors.

Ford pressure gained its reward in the 33rd minute when Read found the lively Danny Benstock who clipped a volley into the far corner from the edge of the area.

With the visiting keeper rarely troubled in the opening forty five minutes, he was to ensure his side kept the lead going into the break, when Rocks went close to an equaliser when Matt Russell had an effort saved following a one-two with Guy Rutherford.

The visitors increased their lead in the 55th minute when Stoner let a half-hit effort from Read squirm from his grasp and trickle over the line.

Within four minutes it was three as Read saw a shot parried by Stoner and Dean Allen headed home.

Bognor battled back and Nicky Wyatt and Jay Pickering went close. Defender Pickering finally scored with a powerful header in the 67th minute. Rocks reduced the arrears further two minutes from time when a Michael Birmingham shot deflected off Russell and into the net.
