Brighton and Hove is a lively bustling city and there is a real buzz about the place.

But the downside is many people do not feel the streets are safe especially at night.

Now the Safer Streets campaign has been launched to combat problems such as begging, street drinking, graffiti and drug dealing.

Police will take a more active approach towards catching the culprits.

Working with other agencies, they will also try to stop the problem occurring in the first place.

Quick action will be taken by the city council and traders in repairing vandalism and painting over new outbreaks of graffiti.

People responsible will be made aware of the problem they cause their victims through their thoughtless behaviour.

City centres can quickly decline when areas become neglected, which encourages more crime and violence.

But the reverse is true when streets are kept sparkling though care and vigilance.

The pride Brighton and Hove has in being a city can help bring big improvements.
