It was a tragedy when Hove plasterer Anthony Evans died after suffering injuries at a Brighton nightclub.
But as a result five people have received new leases of life through transplanted organs.
Two young men each received one of his kidneys while a pensioner and a young child received part of his liver. Now a 75-year-old man has been given a heart valve.
So far all the recipients are doing well and are extremely grateful to Mr Evans and his family for sanctioning the donations.
After scandals last year involving dead patients' organs taken without relatives' consent, the number of people carrying donor cards locally and nationally dropped sharply.
But the case of Anthony Evans should make many people think again about how they too could help save lives.
Three months after his sudden and tragic death, his family is still grieving and this process will continue.
But in time they will realise how pleased he would have been to have known he had helped to save five lives.
