Surely the point missed in the debate on a Brighton monorail is simple. A monorail could continue from where the Volks railway ends, towards the Lagoon. Extending the Volks into the Marina would create the best of both worlds, old and modern. Competition is just not on.
Continuing in this vein, why not have park-and-ride systems around the perimeter of the city, where the ride bit is compulsory and free - a sure way to cut congestion?
Looking further to the future, a monorail system, or trams, into the city and as far around as is viable could be extended as and when funds were available.
