LEWES winger Richard Hudson will have a trial with Nationwide League promotion-chasing Rochdale.

The Division Three side have been in contact with the 19-year-old and want to take him for a week.

Lewes manager Jimmy Quinn said: "Rochdale have contacted us and we have agreed he can go. They obviously want him up there when they can see him play in a game but we do not know when yet. It is safe to say it will be in the near future.

"If he could make it as a professional I would be very pleased for him. There is no way I would stand in his way.

"We're also pleased that people who are playing for Lewes are getting noticed and it is a compliment for the club."

Hudson has ambitions to be a professional.

He said: "I would love to make it into the professional game. I think someone who knew the Rochdale scout put my name forward and they want me to go up there and play a couple of games."

The former Shoreham striker had an extended trial at Crystal Palace last season. But his hopes of a move to Selhurst Park nose-dived when reserve team manager Peter Nicholas left the club.

Quinn rates Hudson highly, although he has reservations about whether he fits the bill for Division Three football.

Quinn said: "Richard is a bit on the small side and it is a very physical league as Albion manager Micky Adams often says.

"Richard is not the most physical of players. He is a talented footballer like an old-fashioned winger. He is very good at picking up the ball, dribbling past players and has very close control.

"I just wonder whether Rochdale is the right place for him."

Hudson has been scoring freely this season, and took his tally to 14 when he bagged four in the 5-0 hammering of Windsor and Eton Associate Members Cup earlier this month.

Rooks midfielder Paul Stokes is recovering well from an ankle injury and could be back in the next fortnight.

But Chris Dicker and Warren Bagnall are set to miss tomorrow's game with Hertford Town as they serve one-match bans.

Bognor boss Jack Pearce welcomes back Guy Rutherford from suspension and also has David Birmingham fit for the visit of Thame United for their Ryman League division one clash tomorrow.

The Rocks came through their Sussex Senior Cup tie at Hassocks unscathed, although, a cup upset looked possible after they trailed 2-0 at the Beacon.

Pearce said: "The scoreline did not reflect the amount of possession we had.

"However, when you are 2-0 down against a County League division one side who are going well in the league, you are pleased to turn it around and stay in the competition."
