Our front page story on Monday, January 15 about victims of the Sussex bungled eye operations may have given a slightly misleading impression.

We reported how some of the 19 victims were waiting for compensation almost two years since their ordeal and there had only been one reported payment of £15,000 to a widow in her eighties.

And we highlighted how one victim, Eleanor Jeffery, from Moulsecoomb, Brighton, and a client of city solicitors Donne, Mileham and Haddock, was unhappy at the long wait.

I've since heard from Sarah Maynard, a partner with fellow city solicitors Farrington Webb, who tells me she has acted for four of the victims and two of their cases were settled almost a year ago, one is about to be and the last has been delayed only because the patient's eye condition has meant Sarah had only just now been able to apply for a full medical report.

I am grateful for the information.

Our report in Wednesday's Youth In Action column about how former Albion midfielder George Parris was helping pupils from Ovingdean Hall School enjoy competitive table tennis upset children and teachers because it described the youngsters as deaf and dumb when in fact they are merely deaf.

Youth In Action reporter Mike Donovan apologises to all of you for what, I must say, is a rare slip-up on his part.

In Tuesday's evolution section, our report about the revamp of the online magazine subscription service, eMagazine.com, gave the wrong web site address. The correct one is www.emagazineshop.com Annie Taylor, chairman, of Portslade Retreat Horse Rescue, thanks us for printing her letter on January 17 in which she thanked the centre's friends for their donations but says we printed the phone number incorrectly. The right number is 01273 270982.

Brighton Theatre Royal doorman Keith Salvage's letter about the theatre's alternative performance of Cinderella at the Theatre Royal in Brighton, published on Saturday, January 13, referred to Brighton Lanes when it should have said Brighton Cares.

In asking for a clarification, Keith, from Hollingdean, is good enough to admit his own "scribbly" writing may have been to blame for the error.

However, he was spot on in noticing our offer of a free rose for every reader on the same day was on page six and not page nine as the front page promotional cross reference said.

Finally, a letter from Councillor Simon Battle published on January 16 stated the Campaign for a Better Brighton and Hove came last in the Tenantry by-election in Brighton held in September. In fact, councillor, the campaign wishes you and other readers to know that candidate Brian Ralfe came fourth out of six.
