Move over Fatboy Slim, there is a new superstar DJ kid on the block.

Llewellyn Owen is officially the youngest DJ in the world, according to the 2001 edition of the Guinness Book of Records.

The eight-year-old, known as DJ Welly, has drawn large audiences in The Drome club in London and festivals including Glastonbury.

This week Welly showed off his skills at a party for Sasha Glenny, of Chester Terrace in Brighton. Up to 30 children from Balfour Junior School danced to Welly's tunes at the ninth birthday party co-organised by his manager Adam Williams and Sasha's mother, Snezana Curcic.

Miss Curcic said the party was a great success, even though the primary school children were more used to listening to West Life and S Club 7 than Welly's brand of hard core house music.

Mr Williams, who is also Welly's chaperone and lives in Fiveways, said the child star's talent was undeniable.

He said: "It was clear from the start that Llewellyn had an amazing talent."

Mr Williams, a former record producer who owns The Drome, staged a weekend of events at the club two years ago and set up a specially designed play area for children.

The former Eurythmics and Bronski Beat producer heard Welly spin the discs when the then six-year-old tried out some decks that had been put in the play area.

Mr Williams said: "There were big crowds of people gathering around him. People's jaws were just dropping in amazement."

Welly, who lives in London, was just four when he first stepped up to the decks.

He said: "I didn't get the bug straight away. It was when I was about five and I started collecting records that I really got into it."

A friend lent the youngster some decks of his own and from that point on, Welly spent as much time as he could playing to the crowds.

Mr Williams organises Welly's club sets so he can play at times which don't disturb his sleep.
