Two people were injured in a fight between two gangs outside a boxing match.

Police were called following reports of a man wielding a sword outside Crawley Leisure Centre last night.

Two groups of about five men, some carrying sticks, were involved in the fight in the centre car park in Haslett Avenue.

Trouble started around 8pm when the two groups began fighting.

Punches were thrown, a car window was smashed and some gang members in a van rammed another vehicle as they made off.

One man received a cut eye in the fight and was taken to hospital. A second man is thought to have received a head wound but left without treatment.

Police, who turned up in force to bring the fight to an end, later recovered a sword from the leisure centre car park.

The fight is not thought to have been related to the boxing matches taking place inside the centre, where an 1,100-strong crowd watched contestants including Crawley's Michael Alldis and Frenchman Salem Bouaita.

Police returned to the leisure centre at the end of the event to ensure there was no further trouble.

Last night no one had made an official complaint as a result of the fight and no one had been arrested.
