Six Sussex title-holders got walkovers into the South East Region finals of the ABA Schoolboys Championships.

Lee Jenman (under71kg), Leon Dajou (under-36kg), Joe White (under-51kg), Sam Wadey, Ben Abday and Dennis Buchanan (Westhill) were all left without opponents in the qualifiers at Camberley. Trainer Mark Wray said: "It took the shine off for them. It would mean so much more if they had boxed."

Nicky Jenman (Portslade Community College) stopped Liam Mattingley in the second round after flooring him twice. Luke Hunt (Glebe), 12, scored a majority verdict over Matthew Wells. Shaun Attrell (Hastings) earned a unanimous decision at under-32kg against Owen Scott.

Gary Hudson (Hove Club and Kings' Manor pupil) was stopped by Luke Castle at under-48kg. Shane Weston (Horsham) conceded seven inches and the bout to Liam Mattingley's brother, Craig, and lost.

BASKETBALL: Bears score 162 points Brighton Bears under-18s believe they got "close to a record" when they thumped Ashford (Kent) 162-52 in the National League at Angmering.

Bears' England international Andrew Smith led the way with 46 points as second-placed Bears overran their depleted opponents to maintain their bid for the Conference Four crown.

Coach Billy Hungrecker said: "It was an absolutely amazing scoreline. One of the most lop-sided victories I have ever heard of. It has to be close to a record. It was a solid team performance."

ATHLETICS: Charlotte's in Games victory Crawley's Charlotte Best, an England cross country international, has scored a victory indoors.

Best won the under-17s' 800m at the Birmingham Games in 2min.18.71sec, a time that just five Sussex women bettered last track season.
