Brighton and Hove bagged another three points on Saturday to move into joint-second alongside Tulse Hill.

That side had their top-of-the-table clash with leaders Holcombe postponed and Brighton skipper Carlo Missirian had mixed feelings about the inactivity of the top two teams.

He said: "I don't know if that was a good thing or not. We would have all been interested in seeing which way that match went as it is bound to have a final bearing on the outcome of the league.

"However, we have the points in the bag and they haven't."

Missirian added: "We are playing Mid Sussex this weekend and they are the in-form side in Sussex.

"We shall just have to hope we can beat them and not worry about what everybody else is doing around us. It is a case of taking each game as it comes."

On Saturday, Brighton eased to a 3-1 victory over Blackheath and the comfortable manner of the triumph pleased Missirian.

He said: "When we beat them last time it was a real scrap. We won 2-1 and it could have gone either way. This time you could see the difference."

Steve Edmonds opened the scoring for Brighton from open play and Richard Love increased the lead following a run which saw him beat a couple of players and then the keeper.

Blackheath pulled a goal back from a penalty flick but Love tied up the points in the second half following a well-worked short corner.

Mid Sussex are looking forward to their clash against Brighton with confidence high after they completed their third victory in a row with a 3-1 win at Old Williamsonians.

Two goals before half-time by Luke Hurle, both from open play, put Mids ahead, and although the hosts reduced the deficit, a third from James Buckeridge after Phil Middleton's short corner strike wrapped the points up.

Andy Green also hit the bar while Mids had three further efforts cleared off the line.

Middleton said: "We played reasonably well. We are now just looking forward to Saturday.

"Games between Mid Sussex and Brighton are usually good value and it will be a good marker of how far we have come."

Horsham are determined to clinch fourth spot and win the mini-league developing below the top three.

They did their cause no harm at all as they won 5-0 at Crawley with the goals raining in from Ian Brown (2), Andy Down, John Burroughs and Richard Lowe.

Captain Neil Burlinson said: "It was our best performance of the season.

Middleton and Bognor's match at BBHC was postponed.
