Regarding Nigel Sweet's letter (January 17), perhaps he could enlighten us all on the specific advantages to Adur of the proposed Shoreham Harbour plan.

The artificial creation of a brownfield site at the eastern end of the port is dependent upon the destruction of the natural contours of Southwick Beach, which is a well-used and well-loved part of Adur's natural heritage. It is not a brownfield site.

Presumably if Brighton moves port facilities and storage to Southwick Beach, port workers will move the short distance west to retain their own jobs.

Waterside infrastructure will be carried out by a specialist company with its own equipment and work teams.

No long term job opportunities are specifically envisaged at Southwick and Shoreham in the foreseeable future.

Current plans for the so-called regeneration of parts of Shoreham are vague and often impracticable. No solutions to problems of congestion on the A259 are offered.

Any caution displayed by Adur Tories is based on a sound understanding of the realities of this so-called vision.

I and many Southwick and Shoreham residents have good reason to be grateful for their caution.
