Brighton based design agency HA Design has just completed a major project for Channel 4.

HA was asked to develop a unique promotional piece for the TV company's programme support department. The department produces all Channel 4's education and support materials from helplines to web sites on every conceivable issue that affects the human condition.

Harvey Atkinson, HA's marketing manager said Channel 4 approached the firm because it needed innovative design conception and copy writing - two skills the agency has a proven track record of delivering.

As a result, the HA team developed an original concept of the 'virtual book' which linked the huge variety of materials the depart-ment produces with the media the department uses to impart information and support, such as booklets, audio-tapes, counselling and seminars.

The virtual book featured hyperlinks that link into every other section of the book - just like a web site.

Mr Atkinson said: "You can imagine how pleased we were to win Channel 4 as a client. We were chosen because we could offer a full agency service, copy writing, design, image-sourcing and conceptualisation for a wonderful project.

"This was a challenging piece of work, in terms of how to integrate so many high-profile campaigns and programmes, ranging from the Brookie Basics adult literacy campaign to the Equinox science series, but we did it by working closely with senior personnel at Channel 4.

"As a result of the success in this project, we are look-ing forward to working with Channel 4 again."

Channel 4 decision makers are reported to have been very satisfied with the project and with the result in promoting the work of the programme support department.

Paula Snyder, commissioning editor of interactive learning said: "We are delighted with the whole look and feel of the brochure which communicates a complex message very effectively and clearly.

"The range of services managed by programme support is difficult to convey but the brochure succeeds in getting to the heart of what we do and explaining our objectives sympathetically and stylishly."
