Worthing are aiming to kill off Brighton's flickering play-off hopes in a London Three South East's south coast derby.

Tim Mackew's side powered in 34-0 at Cranbrook on Saturday to preserve their five-point buffer over Brighton, who battled to an 11-5 triumph at home to Charlton Park.

Coach Steve Dunnill insists Brighton can grab second spot if they win their appeal against two deducted points and stitch together a series of victories, starting at Roundstone Lane on Saturday.

Worthing coach Tim Mackew said: "We know they will want to turn around what we did to them earlier in the season but we are reasonably confident.

"It's an important game if we are going to keep in touch with the top two."

Mackew was impressed by his side's display on Saturday but felt they could have scored more tries.

Tony Cruz (2), Sean Bennett, Ben Coulson, Danny Piggott and Mark Adams got over with Coulson converting twice as Worthing scored 17 points in each half.

A brilliant piece of work by Micky Poole lit up Brighton's win over Charlton Park. He followed up Mark Gibb's chip and produced a nimble pick-up to go over for a try in first half stoppage time.

Brighton wasted further chances but two Geraint Jones penalties kept them in charge against a dogged Park side for whom Sam Naden grabbed a well taken second half try.

Lewes are up into mid-table after a 46-12 win at bottom side Askeans. Richard Siggs marked his return from injury by scoring an early try and creating strikes for Ian Hardcastle and Ian Priest.

Liam Craig-Davies scored one and sent in wing Carl Payne for the game's best try.

Hardcastle added his second and Tim Hemsley also scored with Huw James kicking four conversions and a penalty.

East Grinstead felt they were harshly treated by the 27-10 margin of defeat at home to Sidcup. Wing Paul Goodwin returned from a hamstring injury with a try which Steve O'Reilly converted from the touchline.

There was also an O'Reilly penalty before Sidcup pulled away with two late tries.

Crawley were beaten 27-3 at leaders Tunbridge Wells.

Replacement George Castleton scored two tries to cap Bognor's pleasing 42-10 home win over neighbours Chichester.

Skipper Tom Spurle, who also crossed, said; "We are now training and playing regularly and getting back to our early season form."

Steve Woolcombe, Andy Shipp and a Gareth Williams solo effort completed the try tally. Stuart Pearce slotted three conversions and two penalties.

Richard Johnson and Joe Dallimore replied for Chi.

Hove are notoriously bad travellers so were delighted to bounce back from 12-0 down to force a 12-12 draw at Folkestone.

Wings Mark Belton and Mark Eastbrook scored tries. Skipper Phil Ward added a conversion and said: "The old Hove would never have come back from 12-0 down."

Heathfield were guilty of too many basic errors as they went down 22-15 to hosts Beccehamians.

Ian Thompson's well taken try was all they had to cheer in the first 50 minutes. They were 22-5 adrift before Rob Streeter scored from a driving lineout and Jack Bayley won the race to a chip through.

Eastbourne slipped up 26-5 at Old Dunstionians, Andy Hebron grabbing their try. Coach Andre Groenen admitted: "We are suffering a loss of confidence."
