Having been aware of so much criticism of the NHS these last few years, I think it only fair to support all those overworked and underpaid people working in the medical profession.

My experience goes back to the old Hove General years ago, the dilapidation of the Brighton General and then the modern equipment of the Royal Sussex County - and, yes, I have been shunted out to the corridor in the A&E but I was eventually seen by a consultant and then sent up to a ward. I have also sampled the skills of the Eye Hospital.

My experience started at the Longridge Surgery, with its pleasant and patient staff, and ended in the Clinic for the Elderly run by the admirable Dr Gainsborough.

The tests and work done on my behalf give the lie to the belief that old people don't count these days.

At 88 and given all the tests imaginable, I say to all those ladies and gentlemen of the Brighton health service, well done and thank you very much.
