Prolific striker Peter Baker bagged a hat-trick and helped Westfield to an impressive 5-4 triumph over Shoreham in County League division two.

Baker, a product of the Westfield youth set-up and a key figure in the club's rise in County League football, has returned from Dr Martens League St Leonards where he was unable to command a regular place.

Baker put Westfield ahead after 33 minutes with his first goal in his second game since returning.

But promotion chasing Shoreham then sped into a 3-1 lead as Scott Carden, Ben Boiling and Mark Pulling scored on 39, 42 and 57 minutes respectively.

Westfield manager Shaun Hardy saw his switch to a three-man defence pay off as Baker (two), Kevin Rose and Mark Drinkwater turned the game on its head with a four-goal blast.

Mark Pulling scored a late penalty to narrow the deficit.

Westfield's Graham Drinkwater said: "We never felt we were out of it even at 3-1 down because we could have been leading 4-0 early on as we missed a lot of one-on-one situations."

Mile Oak followed their 5-1 success of last week over Hailsham with a 3-2 victory over lowly Storrington which elevates them to second in the table.

Tony Burnett, who scored his fourth consecutive league goal, said: "We are doing well and making the most of our games. It is better to have the points in the bag than games in hand.

"The important thing for us is to just keep winning our games and see what happens."

Mile Oak's promotion credentials will get their sternest test when they meet leaders Worthing United on Boxing Day.

Against Storrington, Oak were 3-0 up within 40 minutes with Jamie Harman netting his first goal since September and Neil Roberts taking his tally to five in two games before Burnett added the third.

However, Storrington's Matt High pulled a goal back just before half time and in the dying seconds Oak keeper Ashley Walker dropped a cross onto Antony Whittington for a laughable own goal.

Basement side Crowborough gave up home advantage to take on Peacehaven at Piddinghoe Avenue and left with a 1-0 win following an 85th-minute own goal.

East Grinstead sunk Wealden 5-3 as braces from Shaun Hardy and James Hylton, plus one from Phil Thompson, saw them come back from a goal down.

Lee Sale (two) and D. Brown scored for the visitors with two of their goals coming in the final two minutes.
