R.G. Lee writes (Opinion, December 12) of how he or she "ignored" two Big Issue vendors, as though it was a perfectly natural response.

Did it not occur to him or her that he or she might have simply offered a smile and a "no thank you"?

I tend to find when you treat people on the streets as human beings they respond as such - although if I should ever knowingly bump into R.G. Lee I might revise that opinion.
