Brighton's Burning the Clocks parade has been put back until New Year's Eve.

For the first time since the event began, the parade will not take place on the traditional winter solstice on December 21.

The parade, organised by Brighton-based Same Sky productions, will start at the Old Steine on December 31, at 7.00pm.

Same Sky's director Chris Bailey said: "We are sad to give up the solstice and the traditional site on Madeira Drive. But we are delighted to be part of what should turn out to be a historic Brighton-style New Year's Eve."

This year's parade, supported by Zap productions, the Place to Be campaign and Brighton and Hove Council, will be accompanied by the town's Carnival Collective percussion group.

Up to 800 people are expected to take part in the spectacle that features clocks made out of tissue paper and wood, which symbolises the end of the year.

Same Sky is offering free workshops from December 4 to 20, for anyone who wants to take part in the parade. They will be held at 1 College Road, Kemp Town.
