A man was due to appear in court today charged with the murder of Sussex student John Rees.
John, 23, from Shoreham, a final-year computer studies student at Portsmouth University, died from a single stab wound to the chest while celebrating a friend's birthday early on Sunday.
David Thorpe, 19, of Copsey Grove, Drayton, Portsmouth, was last night charged with murder.
A second 19-year-old arrested by murder squad detectives yesterday has been released without charge.
John, whose family lives in Old Fort Road, Shoreham, had been out with fellow students and was walking home across Southsea Common, Portsmouth, when he was stabbed.
