In August 1995 I wrote a letter to my then MP on the government's plans to privatise British Rail, describing how I felt these plans would end in shambles. I further stated that some members of his party had put common sense before party dogma and voted against the privatisation arrangements.

These councillors were doing what they were elected to do, namely to represent the views and wishes of their constituents, many of whom were commuters and were concerned over the Government's plans.
