It's ironic, considering how inefficiently Sussex police handled the last blockades, that they are now advising drivers not to panic regarding fuel.

When the protests against live exports were taking place at Shoreham Harbour and it had been sheep and calves going in, not petrol coming out, it was very different. Then, hundreds of officers were drafted in from all over to ensure this legal trade continued.

As for the recent protesters, what gives them the right to hold the country to ransom over fuel?

What is needed is an environmental approach to fuel use and transport. The only good thing about the present strategy is the amount of tax it raises. A greener government would put these taxes to better use. Protesters would use less fuel and the Home Office and police would uphold decent laws.
