When I retired, it was in full expectation of enjoying some bridge and whist in what was then a very peaceful Hove. Little did I expect that our quiet town, dragooned into this foolish quest to become a city, would find itself under siege on all sides.
I now play less bridge and whist, for, having mastered an iMac, I am often called upon to mobilise the diverse forces which have been prompted to protest.
Arthritis means I cannot give out leaflets as quickly as some, but I like to think all this keeps me a bit younger. Even so, we must all go some time and I only hope it will be in the knowledge I have helped preserve this oasis from destructive forces.
