Following recent correspondence, I would like to clarify the PDSA's service in Brighton (Opinion, November 3). The PDSA's free veterinary care is available to all pet owners who receive help with their housing costs. PDSA help is given to residents who are in receipt of either housing benefit or council tax benefit.

Even though the PDSA would like to help all pet owners, financial constraints mean we are unable to.

The PDSA is Britain's largest veterinary charity and relies entirely on public donations to fund its services. Last year these cost in excess of £24.3 million. The Brighton animal hospital dealt with more than 33,000 cases during this time.

There are some organisations which can offer pet owners assistance with veterinary bills in certain circumstances. The PDSA helpline may be able to offer free advice. The free-phone telephone number is 0800 731 2502.
