Drive Image 4.0 from PowerQuest, is a complete system back-up and recovery package that works with almost any kind of storage media including CD-R and CD-R/W.
Essentially, it creates an exact image of a user's hard drive and then migrates that image on to storage media, allowing a full transfer and reconstruction of all data.
This means that it takes a 'snapshot' of the drive that can be reinstalled at any time, but particularly after a virus attack or accidental data deletion.
Creating recovery disks is not new but Drive Image 4.0 has so many excellent features it makes the process relatively easy.
I particularly liked its facility to write directly to a CD-R or a CD-R/W without having to make a separate partition for images.
Graphics professionals will recognise many much-needed features. Drive Image can estimate the size of an image file and make sure there is adequate disk storage space.
It will also allow the user to span an image over multiple CD-R disks, allowing huge files to be kept safe.
