I attended, with more than a hundred other residents of Goldsmid ward, the meeting held at Davigdor School.

We called the meeting because of our concern at the way in which Brighton and Hove Council and local councillor Steve Langston had organised a number of parking forums to discuss possible schemes, but had ensured the membership of these forums and the discussions which took place were kept from the public gaze.

More than 40 residents contributed to the discussions and nobody supported the council's proposals.

When all residents had had their say, we allowed Coun Langston and two other council spokespeople to briefly add their thoughts.

They had a tough time as residents made it clear they found their comments inept and inaccurate.

Residents were astounded to hear parking project manager for the council Tim Meredith admit that even if 100 per cent of residents rejected the proposals they would probably still be implemented.
