Mount Etna erupted in February for the first time in nine years, spewing lava, ash and rocks across the Sicilian countryside.

Fortunately, the flow avoided villages but Europe's most active volcano showed how volatile it could be.

A website has been set up to monitor the volcano's activity.

It can frequently be seen on webcam puffing great plumes of smoke into the air.

Web-users could be the first to spot evidence of a new eruption from this camera, which is updated every 30 seconds.
