Gary Hart opened his account for the season with two goals inside the first eight minutes as Albion ran out comfortable 5-0 winners at Langney Sports.

Hart was playing only his second game of the pre-season campaign after being given paternity leave from Albion's Irish tour.

Well aware that Micky Adams is looking to sign a second new striker, Hart looked on fire from the start as Albion's neat passing football continually stretched the Dr Marten's League new boys.

With the exception of Danny Cullip, Adams sent out a full first team for this Roy Hayden Trophy clash and he was pleased with what he saw.

Adams said: "It was a professional performance. I was going to send my Reserves down but decided to send my first team down instead because I wanted a low-key friendly.

"There was a decent crowd here but not the 3,500 people who were at Worthing.

"I wanted to keep it as low key as possible and give the lads a chance to rattle up a decent score and give them a bit of confidence."

As for Hart and strike partner Lee Steele, Adams added: "Scoring goals at any level will give you confidence.

"I am sure those two will have got a bit of confidence tonight."

A crowd of 828 saw Hart take just three minutes to open the scoring.

Paul Brooker fed the lively striker who turned sharply before firing inside the near post.

Five minutes later Kerry Mayo sent over a deep cross which Charlie Oatway knocked back from the touchline and Hart shot first time into the roof of the net.

Albion had started like an express train and a minute later Steele struck a fierce 25-yarder which keeper Dean Lightwood tipped over the crossbar.

A third goal arrived on 21 minutes when Richard Carpenter played a ball into Hart's feet and he teed up Paul Watson who fired into the top corner.

The Seagulls were flying with Brooker roaming across the park and Oatway finding plenty of space to link with Watson down the right.

On 24 minutes Albion went 4-0 ahead when Brooker made a good run into the penalty area before crossing low for Paul Rogers to sidefoot home for the simplest of finishes.

Langney regrouped at half time but still found it difficult to contain a rampant Albion. Watson hit the crossbar just two minutes after the restart and Mayo had a shot saved by Lightwood two minutes later.

The hardworking Steele made it 5-0 on 53 minutes when Carpenter played the ball into his feet and the former Shrewsbury man turned well to rifle a shot home.

Langney had chances through substitute Andrew Ducille and Daren Pearce, but Garry Wilson's men had been given a harsh lesson in finishing in their first outing of the season.

Wilson said: "We paid them a bit too much respect and were not really tight enough to them early on.

"All the elements were against us but it was a great experience for the boys."

Sussex County Football Association has agreed a three year deal for Yellow Jersey to sponsor the Sussex Senior Cup, it was announced at Langney last night.
