PARISH MEETING: The Yapton Annual Parish Meeting received a report from the chairman, Coun Michael Fellows. He listed some of the business undertaken by the council in the past year, including the problem caused by vandalism in the village, including the smashing of the bus shelter in Bilsham Road. Some residents suggested that it be removed, but after discussion with police it was decided to refurbish and repaint it.

Improvement projects over the last year included two new street lamps in Foundry Road and Tack Lee Road, extending the concrete posts to secure the south eastern boundary of the playing field from travellers and the provision of a bus shelter for the eastern side of Bilsham Road.

The council also joint funded with the district council, together with contributions from West Sussex County Council and Sussex Police, a hard kickabout/basketball area on the playing field.

A programme of works for the external maintenance of the village hall is being financed jointly with Ford Parish Council. A tender has been accepted from a local building contractor for £5,200 and the work is due to commence shortly.

To mark the new millennium the council, assisted by a contribution from Ford Parish Council, has provided a new Clock Tower for the village hall.

The AGM was followed by Insp D.J.Richards and Community Beat Officer PC Barrett, who explained the new arrangements for community policing in the area.
