Horsham continued their climb away from the relegation zone with a 4-0 win over Banstead.

Horsham repeatedly put Banstead keeper Shimmell under pressure and it was no surprise when Matt Smart scored with a shot from the edge of the area after a good run by Cliff Thomas.

Straight from the kick-off, Smart again went through and hit the post, then Gavin Geddes scored Horsham's second after 20 minutes despite being fouled in the process.

Banstead did not have their first shot until the 25th minute. Horsham continued to press forward and it was no surprise when Thomas scored in the 38th minute with a thunderous drive.

This followed the sending-off of Banstead's Marcel Dennis for violent conduct. The second half was an anticlimax with Horsham having to wait until the 87th minute before scoring through defender John Kirby.

Bognor continued to pull themselves away from the bottom of division one with a 0-0- draw against Croydon at Nyewood Lane. The visitors looked the more threatening in the opening play before Bognor settled and battled back well in the second half, but yet again their lack of clinical finishing in front of goal surely cost them three points.

Bognor had chances late in the game to steal all three points, however. Bundy's cross from the byeline was cleared under pressure by Dave Scott and then Kevin Murphy lost the ball from his control after he had reacted to reach a Michael Birmingham free kick.

Rocks' manager Jack Pearce said: "All I can say was that it is an improvement on our recent home form. I am just disappointed we didn't get all three points but at least we didn't get beaten."
