Haywards Heath saved the fireworks for the second half as they celebrated a fifth successive final appearance.

Five of their six tries came after the break as they eventually ground down a spirited Heathfield side in which skipper and lock Rick Ure again impressed.

Heath have won the trophy in the last four seasons and coach Steve Heaton said: "It's great to reach another final. We were slow starting but once we got going the performance was classy."

Former Heath flanker Adam Vander called in on his way to represent England at the Hong Kong Sevens but, along with rest of the Whitemans Green faithful, had to watch a series of chances go begging.

They led at the break through Mark Pymm's try and a penalty by Owen Ashton. Ashton was on target again after the restart and Heath then picked up the pace.

Dave Wattam struck after some forceful forward play, Richard Hudson found a way through from scrum half and Nick Dinsdale made room to send Vince Rolandi in for the fourth try.

Jon Graham started and finished the move for the fifth before making the break for Rolandi to round things off near the end. Ashton kicked four conversions.
