Defiant Macclesfield manager Peter Davenport reckons his team can still make the play-offs after rescuing a point against fourth-placed Peterborough on Saturday.

Neil Moore's equaliser deep into stoppage time at Moss Rose left Davenport's fading team in 13th, two places and a point above Albion.

"We're in with a good shout," declared the former Manchester United and Nottingham Forest marksman. We've just got to string a series of results together and then who knows?"

Macclesfield have strung a series of poor results together recently. The Peterborough stalemate stretched their run without a win to five games. Albion have taken 13 points from the last 15, while tonight's visitors have collected only three over the same period.

They have, however, won seven away, a record bettered only by the top two, Swansea and Rotherham, and Rochdale. Former Albion forward Richie Barker, the next-highest scorer in the Third Division with 17 goals, has been ruled out for a month by a recurrence of torn ankle ligaments.

He is among several casualties which are stretching Davenport's resources to the limit and may force him to name himself on the bench. Central defenders Rae Ingram (hamstring) and Simon Collins (ankle) both had to come off against Peterborough.

Captain Darren Tinson is likely to be switched into the middle tonight to partner pointsaver Moore, with George Abbey filling in at rightback.

Macclesfield also have a problem in midfield, with Chris Priest due for a hernia operation. Paul Ware is expected to take his place as Ben Sedgemore is suspended along with Simon Davies

John Askey has enjoyed a new lease of life this season. Richie Barker's regular partner up front, who has served the club for 15 years, is the top marksman this season with 11 goals.

Albion snatched a 1-1 draw at Moss Rose in November. John Askey put Macclesfield ahead midway through the second half. Substitute Kerry Mayo headed an 87th-minute equaliser from a Charlie Oatway cross to rob the home side of a sixth successive League win.
