Silver Grey Lady is back at Arundel after going through the sale ring at Newmarket.

The full sister of Silver Patriarch, John Dunlop's 1997 St Leger winner and Derby runner-up, was in the dispersal sale of the late Peter Winfield, having been broken and ridden away at Castle Stables last autumn.

She fetched the highest price, £170,000 guineas, ever paid for an unraced juvenile at Newmarket and was bought by Nicholas Cooper of Normandie Stud, Kirdford as a silver wedding present for his wife, Philippa. The Coopers have horses with Richard Rowe at Storrington and owned last year's Whitbread winner Eulogy, who was later killed in a fall at Sandown last autumn.

Mrs Cooper was distraught after that accident and was seriously considering giving up jumpers altogether. But Silver Grey Lady is far too valuable to be risked over hurdles or fences and when she retires in two or three years, with perhaps a couple of group race successes to her name, she will be a prize asset to the Stud.

Dunlop said: "I am delighted she has returned to us, she is an athletic filly with a lovely nature who has done nothing wrong so far. She is similar to Silver Patriarch although not quite as big as he was at the same stage. She will be given plenty of time and should do well.

Jenny Pitman will be the guest of honour at the Charity Race Day at Brighton on May 4.

The recently retired Grand National and Gold Cup winning trainer will talk about her life with horses, a career which made her a nationally known figure as well as a highly successful trainer.
