WHEN Clare and Simon Barwick's baby is born they have not ruled out calling the latest addition Chris or George - Chris after the DJ who gave them the chance of a lifetime and George after the 19th Century author who sealed their fate as Britain's first quiz show millionaires.

Clare, who is three months pregnant and still spinning from Friday's efforts, which saw her scoop £1 million on the Chris Evans breakfast show on Virgin Radio, said: "We have not thought of a name for the baby because it is still early days. But Chris and George are certainly possibilities!

"There is still a feeling of disbelief this has happened to us. I was absolutely convinced I was not going to win it. I was thinking: 'This doesn't happen to people like us. It happens to other people'.

"A week ago we were wondering how to pay the mortgage on maternity leave."

Four days into their newly acquired millionaire status, Simon and Clare, from Worthing, have only splashed out on a few bottles of champagne to celebrate.

Both quit their jobs yesterday - Clare as a trainee consultant with Norwich Union and Simon as a reservations supervisor at First Choice Travel, and have already lined up a few nice presents they want to treat themselves with.

For Clare, 35, gifts to herself will include a West Ham season ticket and plans to take in the opera and ballet in Covent Garden, while Simon has his heart set on travelling to Monaco for next year's Formula 1 Grand Prix.

They want to buy new cars - a practical family vehicle as well as a flashier option, like a Porsche or Ferrari. And both also want to take a return holiday to Italy to recapture photographs they could not take on a previous trip because their camera was broken.

But far from being flippant, Simon and Clare, who have a 17-month-old baby, Alfie, say they will carefully watch everything they spend.

It wasn't that long ago they had genuine worries, which included Simon being made redundant twice in the space of a year and Clare experiencing a miscarriage through her first pregnancy.

For them the importance of the money is not being able to swan around in fine clothes. It's the reassurance at last they can relax with the knowledge they will always know financial security.

Clare said: "When you have children your whole attitude towards life changes. It's so wonderful to know we can look after them.

"Alfie doesn't understand all this. All he's interested in is Teletubbies and Thomas the Tank Engine. I'm determined they won't grow up to be spoilt brats.

"We have worked hard and worked for a long time. It's a huge relief to think I don't have to work for a while if I don't want to.

"We haven't decided exactly how we are going to spend the money. We don't want to be too hasty. We want to pay off the credit cards and the things you worry about when they come through the door every month."

Simon added: "Our friends are thrilled. We have got a lot of very good friends who have been there for us in the past and helped us out when we needed it.

"We want to spoil our families a bit too - we just want to make sure they have a nice Christmas and enjoy the next couple of weeks."

Clare won her million in a head-to-head knockout round with Daron Cole, 35, from Belfast, by correctly answering the question 'which of these writers was really a woman George Eliot or TS Eliot?' She correctly answered George Eliot.

Clare, whose uncle lives in Melbourne, Australia, said: "Gone are the days when Mum will have to scrape together her last pennies to go and see her brother. I will fly her out there to see him anytime.

"Chris Evans has been fantastic. The whole Virgin crew was so genuine. This is our chance to be secure for the rest of our lives. If we blow it we deserve to have our backsides kicked!"
