STAMP COLLECTORS: The meeting of the France & Colonies Philatelic Society was not the 'disaster' that one would have thought. Howard Longden brought along nearly 200 burnt, damaged, water-stained and the remains of envelopes, recovered from plane crashes, sunken ships, train disasters and other modes of transport.

At the meeting of East Worthing Stamp Club, members entertained each other with items from their collections beginning with the letter "B".

The members of Worthing Philatelic Society were entertained to a marvellous display of the stamps of Canada by Jane Moubray, a Past President of the Royal Philatelic Society and a Signatory to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists.

John Leham, Chairman of the Support Group Committee, toasted friends, colleagues and absent friends at a happy gathering when Katie the youngest and Simon the oldest members blew out the candles and cut a cake decorated with the PHAB motif.

Leader Val MacEuchern and her husband Doug were presented with a bouquet and an interesting bottle in appreciation of their good leadership and tireless work

Phil Collins supports the Club through a Cup Challenge undertaken every year by Foxbridge Angling Club.

The PHAB Club is for physically disabled and able-bodied young people aged between 12 and 24. It meets weekly on Friday evenings and is brings young people together to have fun and experience a range of activities from pool to sailing and ice skating.

Village Hall sales: Billingshurst Village Hall saw a busy morning on November 6 with the Macmillan Supporters Group holding their Christmas Sale in the foyer and the Stanley Room and Dauxwood Pre-school their Nearly New sale in the main hall.

Dauxwood Pre-school filled the Hall with priced and categorised boys' and girls' clothing, footwear, toys and equipment. Caroline Edser said the splendid turnover of 1,000 amounts to some £200 profit for the Pre-school.

The Macmillan Supporters Group set the Christmas ball rolling with cakes, decorations, jewellery, handicraft, toys, refreshments, tombola and raffles. They raised a satisfying £411.

HISTORY: A nostalgia evening is being held at Wilmington next Wednesday. Old photographs will be welcome. Books and church records of the villages of Folkington, Milton Street and Wilmington will be on display. Wine will be served.

WINE AND CHEESE: The Folkington PCC last month had a very successful wine and cheese evening. Over 200 people came in pouring rain and a huge thank you must go to everyone involved. Supporters and helpers will be happy to know that the amazing sum of £1,343 was raised for the restoring of St Peter's Church.

MALTHOUSE AFTERNOON CLUB: At the October meeting the group enjoyed a Beetle Drive. On Monday members heard Susan Rowland speaking on the research that she has been doing on Hamsey churchyard.

MILLENNIUM: Bill Rendall has given permission for a beacon to be lit in his field opposite Offham House at midnight on December 31.

There will be a gathering in the Malthouse, Cooksbridge, from 9pm onwards for refreshments.

WELCOME BACK: Following the resignation of John Smithson as organist at St Peter's, Offham, Donald Bishop, the former organist, has returned.

On his first Sunday back when his return was announced, the congregation broke into spontaneous applause. Thanks to John for the lovely music during his six years, and a happy retirement to him and Frances in Hove.

HARVEST GIFTS: For the third year running, Hamsey Primary School held their own Harvest Festival in St Peter's,Offham, and their harvest gifts combined with those from the church were distributed once again this year with some going to St Patrick's Charity in Hove and the other half within the parish.

ANNUAL MEETING: Last month members of Stanmer Pres-ervation Society were informed that, despite hopes that were raised at the open day held at Stanmer House in the summer, there was still nothing new

to report. The old house

still remains closed to the

public.

During the second half of the evening we were shown some interesting slides of the on-going archaeological dig in Stanmer.

Carried out under the supervision of the Brighton & Hove Archaeological Society, features from the Roman and Iron-age periods have now been discovered.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: This event is being held again at Falmer Parish Hall on Sunday, November 21, 11am-4pm. Various stalls, tombola, refreshments and a children's lucky dip. Admission free.
