Preston Village Mike Panting 01273 563706 SENIOR CITIZENS: The Senior Citizens Club, which is held at Knoyle Hall in Knoyle Road every Friday afternoon, has a full programme of varied and interesting events up for the rest of the year. Tomorrow there will be a talk and demonstration of First Aid and on November 19 the topic is aromatherapy. A whist drive is being held on November 26.

In December, there is a talk on Homecare, a bring-and-buy sale and a musical afternoon.

Anyone interested can go along. The club runs from 1.45-3.15pm every week.

ST. MARY'S: A lot of progress has been made on various millennium projects. The council have granted planning permission for the floodlighting of the church tower on the west side, and the statue of Mary for the niche over the main door has been ordered and should be ready by Christmas.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman School is preparing an outside crib which will be fixed to the wall of the church before Christmas.

ST JOHN'S: The church is now a listed building, which means it is safe from alterations which could spoil its character.

The Rev. Frank Mitchinson told me: "We want to restore the building to its former glory. The works now taking place inside the church are sensitive and fit in with its original style".

The new marble sanctuary is now laid and the stone just has to be polished. New audio and lighting fittings are in place. Then fund-raising for phase two of the re-ordering will begin.

Mr Mitchinson said: "I'm certain it won't be long now before all the planned work is complete. It will be our gift to immediate and future generations and a worthwhile millennium project".

BUS SERVICE: The council are currently reviewing bus services and would welcome comments and suggestions.

Representations have been made to improve the frequency and timetable of Metro Service 59 and 59A which links Preston Village to Brighton Station in one direction and Sainsbury's Lewes Road in the other.

You can discuss improvements you would like to see by phoning 01273 292480.
