Extremists are just terrorists

The English are known as a nation of animal lovers and the RSPCA has for long been one of the country's top charities.

But some leading members of the Animal Liberation Front have taken their cause to ridiculous lengths.

Fire bombs and other attacks, which could cause loss of life, have become all too commonplace.

The kidnapping and branding of undercover journalist Graham Hall by fanatics was a ruthless and shocking attack.

Now former ALF member David Hammond, who has also exposed the group's methods, is a target.

The exposes have proved these animal extremists are as dangerous as political terrorists who will stop at nothing to further their aims.

David Hammond has been brave to speak out against them. His actions may lead to the arrest of the ringleaders and should ensure support for this bunch of fanatics withers and dies.

Heated debate

MPs are getting the message about school dinners, from the people who provide them.

The Local Authority Caterers' Association says the meals should be provided in pleasant surroundings but, even more than that, they should be hot.

West Sussex County Council, which abolished hot meals earlier this year, should take note of that.

Thousands of children still rely on school dinners as their only decent meal of the day.

The Government should make it a duty for councils to provide them so that other authorities don't follow the awful example of West Sussex and duck out of it.

Dish of the day

Restaurant owner Abdul Monnan decided the best birthday present for customer Mark Wilson, stuck in the States, would be to send him a curry.

So the Argus helped him deliver the dish from Worthing to Gatwick before it flew business class all the way across the Atlantic.

He certainly knows how to curry favour with one who favours curry.
