The man was found by a security guard and police say they are treating the death as suspicious.

The body was found on wasteland in Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury, at 9.20am, next to a 40ft tower at the derelict former Jotun-Henry Clark Ltd factory building.

The building is next to the headquarters of the Sussex Police CID unit.

The man, in his early twenties, had suffered massive head injuries.

Officers cordoned off the area while the body was removed and police are investigating whether the man may have fallen from the roof.

Apost mortem examination was due to be carried out tonight and police are checking video tapes from their own security cameras.

The derelict building is too dangerous for police to enter.

Ateam of detectives headed by Det Insp John May was at the scene.

Appealing for information, Mr May said: "We are not sure yet how the man met his death but we are treating it as suspicious at this stage."
