A fleet of buses is revving up to take protesters to the G8 summit in Edinburgh.

Oxfam is running several coaches from Brighton to Scotland on the weekend of July 2.

The charity hopes hundreds of protesters from the South will make the 464-mile journey to join the rally organised by Bob Geldof.

Hayley Baker, Oxfam campaigner for Sussex, said: "Hundreds of people from Sussex have already taken part in events to promote the Make Poverty History campaign. Thousands are now wearing white bands, the symbol of the campaign.

"The event in Scotland is seen by many as the climax of the campaign and a culmination of all their hard work."

The buses will set off from Brighton on July 1 at 8pm and will leave Edinburgh late on July 2. The cost is £50 return. The buses will stop overnight in Newcastle where accommodation will cost extra.

The rally will take place on July 2, the same day as Live 8 and the day before Sail 8.

The events are designed to send a unified and clear message to the leaders of the world's richest countries that they must act now to eradicate extreme global poverty.

Protesters are being encouraged to wear white to form a human white band around the city.

Hayley said: "Don't let the G8 get off the hook. Make sure they deliver on their promises to tackle immense poverty. When we stand together we can make a real difference."
