After reading tonight's Argus (June 20), I felt compelled to write in regarding the letter sent by Jo Adams.

I agree schools being open from 8am to 6pm sounds bad but unfortunately some of us have to work to survive. I have two children who have attended creche and school breakfast clubs.

Please do not patronise us working mums, who know the bond between mother/father and child starts from birth and discipline starts in the home. My children are very disciplined and wonderful to be around.

As Jo Adams seems so passionate about this topic, perhaps she would like to pay my mortgage so I can spend more time with my children. If not that, perhaps she will save for my children to go on to further studies after school.

I wish people on both sides of this subject, would think before they offer their opinions. In an ideal world, every parent would be able to choose whether they wanted to work or stay at home with their children but this isn't the case.

Do not judge us if we have to leave our children at creches or school clubs. It does not mean they do not have a stable upbringing or that we love them any less.

As for her comment "why have children in the first place?", does she think all dysfunctonal parent-child relationships come from working parents? If that is the case, I would love to invite her to tea with my family so she can see she's misguided.
